Day 10- an apartment in Belgrade
Hi all,
You join me whilst I'm partially conversing with Vodafone (data not working), and scribbling away about today's goings-on.
Today's been pretty good, as I tootled around Timisoara- European City of Culture 2023, no less. Upon arriving at the city centre this morning, I was admittedly a tad underwhelmed when I arrived at one of the city's numerous squares. The greenery was well-maintained, but, the buildings did not meet the same levels of prettiness I had seen online.
But! Too many times on my wanders I have judged a book my its cover, and after stumbling on some old ladies being blessed in a Church (and awkwardly exiting in a prompt manner, in my case), I was advised to pootle around the streets to get the most of the city for a few hours. And, like Matryoshka dolls, each street I uncovered outdid the previous street in terms of cuteness. My favourite was Piata Unirii (Union Square), which had a variety of architecture that wouldn't have gone amiss in a Disney Princess film.
After devouring a delightful Dal at lunch, I did some tram-based tourism (and getting lost along the way- quelle surprise- not!), I made haste to a nearby park to while away the time before being collected for my journey to Belgrade.
Fellow passenger Daniel (a Timisoara native) remarked that Timisoara is a more of a place for a day visit, which is something I'd agree with. However! That doesn't detract from the potential that the city has to become a real tourism hub in Romania in years to come. After all, it was not named "Romania's prettiest city" for no reason.
After conversing about topics ranging from the Manchester music scene in the 90s to people identifying as animals, I'd arrived in Belgrade, after a few hours in the car.
I'm liking Belgrade's vibe. I haven't really had a chance to explore the city, bar walking past bars and cafes to my accommodation tonight, but! I soon realised that I needed a card to stay in Serbia and and avoid a potential fine. Therefore, uploading my ID is on the agenda tomorrow so that the powers that be don't think I'm a wrong'un. To add to this, I thought Serbia uses the euro, too. Whoops, definitely have the right currency with me- not. #ignorantbrit.
Til next time!
Tom :)
