Bonus post: Rest Day ramblings

As promised, here are a few little extra bits from the days I didn't post about:

Wednesday afternoon: Luxembourg City

I had a late check-in to my accommodation in Thionville, France (about 20 mins from Luxembourg City), so decided to pass the time before check-in by visiting Luxembourg City, but by trying to avoid seeing the tourist attractions, and defaulting to chilling in the Park, on what was, an untypically warm May day.

Thursday: Thionville

Thursday was my rest day. I'd initially wanted to visit Schengen, of Schengen Agreement fame, before planning a rest day, but was conscious of how I do need them when I'm away. So, I stayed put, and had my first lie-in of the trip, which was beneficial. I hadn't woken up with any plans, so played things by ear, and eventually got bored of staying in, so went out after lunch, and went to the city centre. Someone told me that Thionville was a bit "grey", but I think that the centre was a pleasant place to be on a May afternoon.

After having an ice cream, and trying out my dodgy French at the Tourist Info centre, I went to a museum in a tower,  which, naturally, like the Luxembourg museum, had only French displays. But, on display, were finds that had been dug up from nearby Medieval excavation sites, so display boards didn't really need to add too much to the experience.

It's safe to say that the trip was a bit more expensive than what I'd have liked, even though I'd brought some ready meals over with me, to save on the eating budget, but still, I wouldn't have changed it, and although my phone gave up the ghost the day before I was due to go away, solutions were found (thanks to Andy Stevenson for the usage of his old phone), and nothing went too awry on the trip itself (even if I did have to fork out for a top-of-the-range Eurostar ticket.

Day 7- Bratislava Train Station

 Hi all, I begin this piece from Bratislava Central Station, awaiting my delayed train to Budapest, city number 4 of the trip. Travelling- it all has its ups and downs but I've got to say, having started my "30 countries before 30" ambition (albeit probably prematurely) at the beginning of the year, the phrase "quality over quantity" really rings true on th is trip I've been doing. 18 nights, (excluding two stopovers if we're being pedantic), in 9 countries, all of which I have never visited before. Hello, So, as the palindromic title states, I am currently in Northern Ireland, schlepping about the sights that it has to offer.  The dynamic is a bit different this time around, as I'm not going solo (if you know you know, but not saying who on the small chance that this post ends up going viral and a wrong'un realises that the people in question's home is vacant! 😂), so knowing that I don't have to ferry myself about may reduce some stress and anxiety, but I also do not necessarily have the flexibility to do the things I'd normally intend to do, as I'm too much of a cheapskate to get a hire car! Furthermore, I am about a week into trying some medication for some mental health woes that I've been trying to get over for a couple of months, which will also potentially alter my mindset, so join me along for the ride to see what mental state I'm in come the end of the holiday! Trip Reflections

 Hello from chez moi, where I have intentions to do sod all, after arriving home on Saturday. Since starting these entries, I knew that I wanted to do some sort of reflection of how things have been from my perspective. Like every trip, some things go to plans, whilst other things do not, and I think coming into the trip, my mental health was in such a good place (in comparison to previous years), that I had finished therapy (which I had been in for for the past seven years). I had- perhaps overconfidently, thought that the issues that used to affect my anxiety and mood levels could all be dealt with a toolbox of techniques. So, when I began to experience that panic (probably on Day 2 of the trip), and couldn't get my usual strategies to work, the panic exaggerated itself even more. I did experience similar in Latvia on my 2nd night of the solo trip I did at the beginning of the year.
